Summer Career Quest Internships provide students with career exploration and development opportunities.  Student interns will work closely with their internship host to discuss solutions and ideas while developing problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, presentation and networking skills.  Students participate in a wide range of workplace activities to gain skills and knowledge for specific occupations, while being supported by weekly career development class time with a Seattle Public Schools Career Quest teacher.

Seattle Public Schools students can earn CTE credit and get paid for internship learning this summer! We are very happy to offer four different options for students this year.

Science Quest (Allen Institute) – $500 stipend (2 weeks)

In this unique class, students will participate in advanced lab activities, leaving with increased confidence in biomedical science research and data. Students will generate, analyze, and interpret scientific data and gain exposure to neuroscience, cell biology, and immunology.

Tech Quest (Amazon)– Paid

Tech Quest at Amazon is a 2-week summer program for SPS high school students to explore technology careers of the future. You can expect introductory coding, project based learning and Amazon career guest speakers.

Curious about public health and what your local health department does? Join Seattle and King County Public Health to explore STEAM career paths in health care with hands-on learning opportunities alongside public health professionals. Students will meet nurses, research scientists, epidemiologists, health educators, program managers, and more.

Changemakers in Computing (CIC)

Changemakers in Computing (CIC) is a 4-week free summer program for Washington State high school students to learn about technology, society, and justice. Hosted by the University of Washington’s Allen School, Changemakers in Computing aims to increase the participation of underrepresented, economically disadvantaged, and/or future first-generation college students in computer science and engineering. The program is open to all rising juniors and seniors at Washington State high schools.

High School Summer Research

The Allen School High School Summer Research Intern Program is an opportunity for high school students to engage in research being done in the Allen School. Interns will spend about 8 weeks working on a project under the supervision and support of a research mentor. We encourage students who do not have much programming experience or any research experience to apply for the program. We will use the information about background knowledge provided in the application to find the best project match for applicants based on project requirements and applicant experience.

he Accounting Career Awareness Program is pleased to invite applicants from WA state high school students of color to its Summer 2025 Residency Week program at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. This free, week-long residential program for rising WA state high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors introduces participants to accounting and the many opportunities offered in a career field actively seeking to diversify its workforce. Participants reside on campus, learn in and out of the classroom, visit accounting firms, build valuable life skills, and network with other students and diverse professionals while enjoying a taste of campus life.

What: Starting in 2025, the Research Training Program (RTP) is expanding into a two-year, in-person program with scaffolded experiences to introduce high school students in grade 10 to laboratory research. *Note that activities for the 2025-2026 school year and summer 2026 are contingent on available funding.  

• Summer 2025: During the Research Training, students will:
  • Learn how to work in a research laboratory environment at Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
  • Learn about topics including biochemistry, immunotherapy, gene editing and infectious diseases.
  • Participate in workshops on college readiness and career exploration.
  • Conduct their own independent project utilizing the skills they have learned.
• 2025-2026 school year: Students will participate in monthly workshops (in-person and virtual) on topics in Science Communication.
• Summer 2026: During the Research Experience, the trained students will return to work directly alongside research mentors in laboratories at Seattle Children’s Research Institute.

The program provides students with a solid foundation for a future career in biomedical research. Students who participate must commit to participating in all planned activities of the Research Training Program from July 2025 to August 2026.

Students will receive stipends to offset costs for transportation and meals: $2,000 for summer 2025, $200 during the 2025-2026 school year and $2,500 for summer 2026.

The research training program will take place from Monday, July 13 to Friday, August 14, 2026, from 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. daily.

What: We are offering local high school students the opportunity to participate in our free Scrubs & ’Scopes Camp at Seattle Children’s. During this five-day camp, students will explore various allied health careers by job shadowing medical assistants, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and technicians/technologists in Pharmacy, Radiology, Surgery, Sterile Processing and Anesthesia in a clinical environment, observing as they provide patient care.

Students will also work through interactive, hands-on simulation labs to learn and practice various skills on models such as taking blood pressure and blood oxygen levels; simulating medication compounding for oral and IV medications; using microscopes; and taking X-rays, among other experiences.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage with allied health professionals to ask questions and discuss various education and career paths.

What: The Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is currently accepting applications for our Summer Internship Program.  The Summer Internship Program is a 6-week program, giving youth and young adults in the Seattle area the opportunity to gain practical experience to build their resumes and to make potential connections that may advance their career and/or education.

What: Uterish is a Seattle-based reproductive justice nonprofit, and we offer a summer internship for self-directed rising juniors and seniors who are passionate about social justice and want to build their editorial and communications skills.

This internship is a great opportunity for students to learn more about social justice, connect with like-minded peers, and develop their professional skills in a collaborative, feminist nonprofit environment. We gladly sign off on volunteer hours, and have coordinated school credit on behalf of interns who have needed it in the past. It is a low-commitment internship (around 5 hours a week) coordinated around the schedule of the interns. Applications are due by March 24th.

Who: Youth must be 14-18 years old and have interest in learning about urban farming and/or wetlands restoration

What: RBYS is a youth employment program of Tilth Alliance for youth, ages 14-18, to gain job experience through wetland restoration and farm education. Participants will work at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands and support with field maintenance, food distribution, and wetland restoration.

What: Two pathways to jumpstart a career in biotech. Students gain hands-on training in a biomanufacturing lab, network with industry experts, increase their job opportunities upon completion and earn 9 college credits with free tuition through Running Start. • Pathway 1: Basics of Biomanufacturing Certificate (9 months) – HS students learn basic lab techniques in biomanufacturing, explore careers, and interact with industry mentors – for 11th and 12th graders
• Pathway 2: Fred Hutch Lab Technician Certificate (2 years) – Expand upon the basics of the biomanufacturing certificate (pathway 1) by collaborating with scientists at Fred Hutch and expanding hands-on training with cutting edge technologies at Shoreline Community College – for rising seniors

Teen Reading Coaches provide one-on-one tutoring after school, two days each week. They help their assigned student readers improve their reading skills, while also being positive role models and mentors: they care about their readers’ success and show empathy and understanding in their work.

Who: Students must live within Seattle City limits or attend schools in Seattle, open to students ages 14-24 with IEP/504 plan and meet income requirements. Students are paid a quarterly stipend and can earn up to $250 in incentives.

The Seattle Police Law Enforcement Exploring program aims to bridge the gap between youth and police by educating and involving them in police operations and to interest them in Law Enforcement.
